SUMMARY - Cybernator takes place in the future year of 2010 where the world is in shambles and the cyborgs built by the military are starting to rebel against their creators. Senators are being assassinated and local cop Brent McCord (played by Lonnie Schuyler) seems to be the only person who can properly fight back against these half-machines.
Screenplay by Edward Sanchez and Robert Rundle; Directed by Robert Rundle; and released on an unknown date in 1991.
FILM DISCUSSION
The movie immediately shows the level of acting and production value to expect
Everything screams hyper-low budget - spray painted pieces taped to faces and rented spaces with small decorations
Hand-written signs on wrapping paper
Rubber-faced protagonist
A partner who just can't stop getting shot
Gratuitous sex scene that lasts a little long.
Wonderful special effects and death scenes that reiterate our thoughts that everything was done in one take when possible.
This is not the house of our lead cop. This is whatever relative's house the filmmakers could find. That's fine since the actual sets sometimes showed the top of the walls.
The hubris of the lead villain Captain Hair (real character name)
and a bunch of scenes that were clearly shot at different times with no eyeline reference points for the actors to use.
There was at least one legitimately cool shot in the movie. Otherwise, you're watching this to make fun of it.
Awards Talk: None to speak of this time.
TRUE CRIME & POP CULTURE
This week we don't have any pop culture, because we have no clue when the movie came out. So, we're taking this opportunity to do a deep dive on the arrest of serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer which happened in 1991.
Here are some of the resources used
Born a Killer
The Jeffrey Dahmer Files trailer
Conversations with a Killer trailer
Of course, there is a lot more out there if you are so inclined.
RANKINGS & RATINGS
Nikki 1-5 star scale - 1 out of 5
Jon 0-4 star scale - 1/2 out of 4
Would you watch it again? - We've seen some terrible movies that are obnoxious and boring. This is at least a fun, bad movie. However, neither of us would want to watch this again. The only reason to do that would be to show it to friends and this doesn't quite have enough of those great moments you want to share with people when compared to other cheesy, low-production value movies.
If you want to watch Cybernator, as of this recording in July 2023, it’s available on Tubi, Plex, VHS, DVD. Check your local listings.
