Episode #135: Mannequin Two: On the Move

Listen to Episode 135 of the Podcast here while you enjoy the show notes.

SUMMARY - In Mannequin Two: On the Move, Jesse (played by Kristy Swanson) is a peasant girl who is forbidden to marry the prince that loves her. A wizard puts a spell on her that turns her into wood for 1000 years. Now in present day Philadelphia, Jason (played by William Ragsdale) happens upon her mannequin in his new job and discovers that she is a real girl after all.

Screenplay by Edward Rugoff, David Isaacs, Ken Levine and Betsy Israel; Directed by Stewart Raffill; and released on May 17,1991.

FILM DISCUSSION

The movie starts by trying too hard with the goofy humor. Almost trying for a Mel Brooks like approach or Monty Python-ish.

One big downside is that the mannequin really doesn't look enough like Kristy Swanson.

Honorable effort trying to put an effect on the transition. It was interesting to see how quickly everyone accepts the reality of the situation

The three oafish guards were obnoxious at first, but really grew on us over time. The silly humor somehow got better as the film goes on.

Hollywood is back with a larger role and we have a smarmy, uptight boss that doesn't factor in as much as you might think

How is the Count getting away with all the destruction he causes and also shooting a person?

It's also interesting that they added the wrinkle that anyone could potentially become a mannequin.

Awards Talk: None to mention this time.

TRUE CRIME & POP CULTURE

This week we don't have any true crime but we do talk about a similarly inspired real story as Nikki details the unusual case of Cynthia the Mannequin

Here's what you may have been watching on TV

And here are some more details about Miss Universe winner Lupita Jones

RANKINGS & RATINGS

Nikki 1-5 star scale - 2 out of 5

Jon 0-4 star scale - 1 out of 4

Would you watch it again? - This is one of those movies that may not be very good but is still full of enough goofy fun moments to make it worth a re-watch at some point down the line. The first movie is certainly better overall, though and we're both more likely to pick that over this.
