FILM DISCUSSION
The movie starts out with that classic mix of new graphics
and cheesy practical effects like people diving to the right
Thankfully they don't spend a lot of time lingering on the cast or the ship like most movies
The pacing moves quick but the thread of the narrative shifts away from the political allegory
And then get into the trial and prison segment
and then the assassination thwarting and internal intrigue
Along the way, there are some strange characters and sequences like Iman's shapeshifter
And tons of Klingons quoting Hamlet
But yeah, overall this was strangely one of our favorites of the six.
Awards Talk: It earned Oscar nominations for Best Makeup and Sound Effects Editing. At the Saturn Awards, it was nominated for Make-up, Costumes, Writing, Supporting Actress (Cattrall) and won for Best Sci-Fi Film. Finally, at the MTV Movie Awards it was part of the quotes montage and was in the 'Best hairdos' fake nominees category.

Would you watch it again? - Neither of us were Star Trek fans going in and nothing about the process of watching all 6 movies converted us. There were a couple that were tolerable, including this last entry with the original cast, but generally none of them were all that entertaining to watch again. We'll watch the TV series or other newer films but aside from Star Trek IV, we aren't going back.
If you want to watch Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, as of this recording in February 2024, it’s available on Max, Digital Rental, VHS, DVD. Check your local listings.
